    Located

    There are different types of species of Rhinoceros that live in various places
    including Africa, India, Vietnam and Indonesia.  This particular species of
    Rhinoceros lives in southern, central and eastern Africa.

    Diet

    The Black Rhinoceros feeds on leaves, buds and shoots of bushes and other
    forms of vegetation.


    Habitat

    The habitat of the Black Rhinoceros is the grasslands, savannas and wooded
    areas of eastern, southern and central Africa.  

    Size

    Approximate weight of a Black Rhinoceros:
    Weight is approximately 1,500 - 3,000 lbs.
    Approximate height of a Black Rhinoceros:
    Height is approximately 5 ft.

    Reproduction

    The gestation or pregnancy period for a female Black Rhinoceros is about 15
    months.  A single calf will be born and will remain with the mother for up to
    two or three years.
Notes
  • The Black Rhinoceros has a prehensile lip that defines it characteristically from other Rhinos.
  • The Black Rhinoceros can reach speeds of 35 - 40 mph when charging.
  • The biggest threats to the Black Rhinoceros are poaching and the loss of the land that they used to roam.
